California deserves a public hearing

IPA has formally requested a California Senate informational hearing regarding school vaccine medical exemption policies and implementation practices following SB 276/714 (2019).

Informed Policy Advocates (IPA) has formally submitted a request to the California Senate Health Committee for an informational hearing regarding California’s school vaccine medical exemption system. The request seeks public discussion regarding implementation practices following SB 276 and SB 714 (Pan, 2019).

Families, physicians, and educators across California have raised concerns regarding access to medical exemptions, physician discretion, educational impacts, and possible chilling effects resulting from current implementation practices.

An informational hearing would provide an appropriate public forum for legislators, physicians, families, state agencies, and subject matter experts to openly discuss these concerns and review how current policies are functioning in practice.

California families deserve transparency and accountability regarding policies that affect access to education, medical accommodations, and healthcare decision-making.

During a recent hearing, Senate Health Committee Chair Senator Dr. Akilah Weber Pierson stated multiple times that these concerns would be more appropriately addressed through an informational hearing process. IPA agrees and has formally requested the committee convene a hearing on this issue.
